When Nashville singer-songwriter Eric Church issued his debut Capitol CD in 2006, he was astonished when he took its songs on the road. Within months, a cult of rabid followers assembled, packing his shows, singing along to every word, driving hundreds of miles to see him and “spreading the gospel” of his extraordinary music.
Thanks to Eric Church’s sizable fan base, SINNERS LIKE ME made it into the Top 10 on the country album charts. Singles “Guys Like Me", “Two Pink Lines” and “How ‘Bout You” introduced country radio and its listeners to the North Carolina-born songwriter. Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley and even legendary rocker Bob Seger became fans and hired Eric as their opening act. So how do you follow a masterwork like that? By creating another one.
CAROLINA, the sophomore album by Eric Church, is another collection of strikingly original songs and sounds. Reflecting the restlessly creative character of its maker, CAROLINA is even more musically diverse than its illustrious predecessor. The album debuted at #4 on the Billboard Country Album Chart and has received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone and The New York Times. “Love Your Love The Most,” the first single from Carolina, was a Top 10 hit and the second single, “Hell On The Heart,” is Top 25 and climbing.
“I wanted CAROLINA to go to some different places,” said Church. “The first album was more aggressive and moody. This one is more diverse, more musical and a little brighter. I hope people can at least hear that we’re still taking chances. CAROLINA is an album. So was SINNERS. Most artists make singles and hope they end up with a record. I prefer to make a record and hope I have singles. I love country music, and I am very reverent of the time that I have to make records. That’s what we owe the industry, the format and the fans. We owe them a great record.”

That jangly, arpeggiated guitar intro; those four familiar chords in the verses; that phone number … it’s instantly recognizable as one of the best pop/rock singles of the 1980s–Tommy Tutone’s 867-5309/Jenny.
Tommy Heath began his musical career in Northern California in the late 70's playing in a twangy bar band under the stage name of Tommy Tutone. They rocked with a very traditional five piece configuration: two guitarists, bassist, keyboards and drummer. Heath sang over a cool mix–a bit on the rootsy side of the power rock of the time, nestled between the country and folk rock flavored Americana of Springsteen and John Cougar, the semi-New Wave pop stylings of the Cars and Rick Springfield, and the melodic, hook driven guitar pop of Cheap Trick, The Knack and the Romantics.
VH1 recently featured 867-5309/Jenny in its 100 Greatest Songs of the 80s (coming in at number four). Today, the song is more popular then ever, played thousands of times in venues every night in bars by cover bands, in dance clubs as remixes, and in concert.
Tutone.RTF/Rich Text Files was released in 1998, just in time to catch the resurgence of 80’s popularity, which has continued unabated up until today. “Suddenly we were cool, again, and it wasn’t just the old songs. People were ready to hear new stuff from us old rockers, and it was fun for me to go out and play again” say Tommy. The new record was widely distributed and reviewed and gave Tommy Tutone new credibility with fans, radio, and even with other 80's bands. One reviewer said of this album, “This is the record Tommy Tutone should have put as the follow up to “Tutone-2” in 1984! ...Tommy Tutone is back and better than ever!”
Continuing on his tradition of not taking himself too seriously, Tommy recently released a Christmas recording called Santa I Got Your number, a hilarious mashup of 867-5309 and Santa Claus is coming to town.
“I write and play music for three reasons: to say the things that can’t be said without music, to have fun, and to make peoples dance.”

Stu Cook and Doug "Cosmo" may not have intended it, but their band Creedence Clearwater Revisited has taken on a startling life of its own. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rhythm section (bass and drums respectively) from the legendary group Creedence Clearwater Revival launched the Creedence Clearwater Revisited project in 1995 to once again perform live Creedence Clearwater Revival hits-touchstones of a generation. Though the pair initially only planned to play private parties, Creedence Clearwater Revisited now performs up to 100 shows a year and has released the album “Recollection.”
"We never really had any intention of playing for the public," says Stu. "But a friend wanted to promote a couple of concerts. We got talked into it, but didn't know how it would go over."
Since then, the reaction to Creedence Clearwater Revisited’s concerts has been astounding, and driven in part by a generation of kids who, as Cosmo says, "weren't even born when the music came out." Likewise, the release of a double-live CD on Universal’s Hip-O Records label, which features passionate, authoritative version of 22 classic hits - was the result of public demand. "It was generated by requests of the people who came to the sh
ows," Stu acknowledges. "Over and over they would ask, 'do you guys have a CD?’" Creedence Clearwater Revisited's "Recollection" has proven so popular that it was certified as a gold record by the RIAA in 2002 and is well on its way towards platinum record status.
John Lappen wrote about a Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert in Los Angeles, “Their set was an amazing list of hit after hit that was done serious justice by the players involved. If anyone in the cheering crowd was disappointed [anyone] wasn't there, they hid it well behind their big smiles and whoops of joy at hearing live some of the best American rock ever written and recorded."

Playing sold out shows since late 1997, SATIN LOVE ORCHESTRA has never lost its loyal following of disco fanatics. Their eclectic mix of hard-driving dance music has included hits from Earth Wind and Fire, The Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, and other legends of the 70’s and 80’s.
From the beginning SLO has enjoyed being booked to headline events including the Fort Vancouver Freedom Festival, Eugene Celebration, Bite of Salem, and Art and the Vineyard. The Eugene based, 11 member disco/funk group packs every show with as much adrenaline as any party animal can stand, and their appearance features a metallic 70’s inspired wardrobe with no flare to spare.
From their first performance at Eugene’s Wild Duck Brewery, it was clear that SLO was no ordinary band. They often make their entrance in a white stretch limousine, driving right onto the dance floor, bathed in a swirl of disco lights. This bit has become a well-known trademark, and the crowd eats it up.
When the music starts, it's no question of whether the music will sound as quality as they look. Full of serious gigging musicians, SLO loves to bring the funk right. SLO’s sound is anchored by the fabulous voice of singer Matthew Love, rising above thick, jammin' dance grooves with an unending energy. Female vocalists Shelley James and Rica Wright help Matt create a power trio of vocals. Together the three leads belt out 3-part harmonies with remarkable clarity. Cal Coleman, who plays bass, and percussion, steps out and thrills the crowd with dance routines which include pop lock, break dance and acrobatics. Keyboardist Matt Treder adds additional vocal harmonies and perfect keyboard rhythms. Guitarist, Joe Weber, nails all of the famous guitar parts, and at times steers his sound away from traditional, toward his signature blazing "groove metal" sound. It is quite unreal. Horn players and brothers, Ross Warren and Ryan Warren, and veteran lead trumpet player Dana Heitman, deliver sweet bursts of brass, reminiscent of the disco era, while DRide and veteran drummer, Jason Palmer round out SLO’s polished rhythm section.

Also on Sunday, don't miss the Univeristy of Oregon a'cappella group On The Rocks!
OTR has established itself as one of the top a'cappella groups in the nation. Their current repertoire ranges from contemporary pop, doo-wop classics, hip-hop, R&B, country, and holiday standards, as well as original songs.
Since it's inception, On The Rocks has released five albums: The self titled OTR (2002), Backgammon Sessions (2003), Full Coverage (2005), The Green Room (2008), and A Fifth (2010). A Fifth, their latest release, features many pop and radio standards. The group has received multiple awards for their recordings, including selections on the BOCA compilation albums (Best of Collegiate A Cappella) in 2004, 2006, and 2009. The opening track from Full Coverage, "Kyrie," was selected for "Sing 2006" and is widely recognized in the collegiate a'cappella community as one of the best a'cappella recordings ever. In 2002 OTR placed 3rd at the International Competition of Collegiate a cappella and returned the next year in 2003 to place 2nd out of hundreds of groups. During the competitions they took in more than a dozen awards including, Best Soloist, Best Vocal Percussion, and Best Arrangement.
In the group's 10th year (2009-2010), they met an unprecedented amount of success. After traveling to the East Coast in the spring of 2010, two of On The Rocks' videos went "viral" on YouTube. First, their "Subway Rick Roll" video reached over one million views. Shortly after, their version of Lady Gaga's hit song "Bad Romance" reached over 7 million views and continues to reach to an international audience. The viral success of the group led to an appearance on NBC's reality-competition show "The Sing Off," where they were selected as one of the top ten a'cappella groups in the nation. The show aired in December 2010 and received rave reviews. On The Rocks' performances were praised by both the audience and judges, being called "entertaining" and "exciting." OTR advanced to the semi-finals.
The current group, who will be performing on Sunday, August 21st at 2:15pm in the Fabulous Food Court are: Alar Teose, Chomp, Alex Horwitch, Neil Ghosh, Porsche Anthony, Jeff Rogers, Luke Snyder, Rufus, Micah Joyner, Will Cuddy, Patrick Bryant and David Ozog.
